St. Joseph Institute, near State College in central Pennsylvania, is dedicated to promoting health, wellness, personal and spiritual growth. Our Spa, Day spa and Medical Spa offer more than 60 massage, skin and therapeutic treatments that renew and heal. The Resort & Hotel provides getaway packages and spa vacations for rest and relaxation. The meetings & retreat center host training programs, retreats and a wide variety of learning experiences. The Institute is privately owned, non-denominational, and welcomes people of all backgrounds and faiths.
The Institute is open year-round as a resort and hotel for individuals, couples and families. Meals are provided in the main dining room in the Hospitality House. All of the facilities are available to guests: the Spa and Wellness Center offering more than 60 treatment options, the recreation facilities, game room, lounges, library, outdoor trails and spiritual gardens. The Institute’s mountain location is beautiful in every season and offers a peaceful, relaxed environment.
The Laurel Wellness Center provides a state-of-the-art spa facility with treatment rooms, an indoor walking track, saunas, whirlpool, exercise area, and resistance pool.
The staff includes massage and body work therapists, fitness experts, nutritionists, counselors, physical therapists and associates in chiropractic and medical care.
The approach to healing is holistic - we treat the whole person and strive to address all of their needs. Based on authentic & proven principles of healing, the outcomes for injury, pain, stress, broken relationships and other areas of need are excellent.
The Institute designs special programs for groups of women (4-40 participants). These programs may focus on relaxation and a great spa experience or include an emphasis on an area of personal growth. Among the many recent programs have been retreats on healing, forgiveness, building better relationships, surviving abuse, and helping your children grow.
The relaxed mountain setting is an ideal location for reflection and personal growth.
The Institute facilities can be reserved by a group providing its own program. The Institute staff is also available to provide presentations of a wide range of themes.
These retreats are Journeys in Self Discovery, leading to a better knowledge of ourselves and of God. They help us learn to hear the voice of God in our lives and become more centered in Christ. The focus is on healing, growth, and a life with greater joy, hope and love.
These retreats focus on healing the body, mind, emotions and spirit. They present instruction based on psychology, medicine, and the gospel message, and offer the opportunity to heal in all aspects of our humanity.
To have strong relationships, grow professionally, and develop our full potential, we need critical life skills. These retreats introduce new concepts and teach the participants ways to find mastery and harmony that will bring noticeable change and happiness. Areas of emphasis include: building relationships (healthy intimacy), communications, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution.
The Institute offers an ideal setting for retreats, planning seminars and training programs.
The Appalachian Room - with expansive windows, a fireplace and nature all around - offers indoor and outdoor seating for 50 with nearby breakout rooms.
The Hospitality House – a massive log structure featuring a great room with a fireplace, cathedral ceiling, and large windows that provide a sense of oneness with the beauty of the natural surroundings. Adjoining the great room is a dining area that offers delicious meals that are prepared fresh each day and the ability to accommodate almost every type of food restriction or special diet.
Those who choose overnight retreats will find the Lodges very comfortable. The rooms are double or single occupancy with private bath. All buildings are wheelchair accessible and have facilities for the handicapped.
The Institute welcomes families and children. Outdoors there are walking trails, tennis, shuffleboard, basketball, and volleyball courts. The children’s area includes tree houses, swings, slides and a two story playhouse. There is a pavilion and a gazebo for more relaxing activities.
